What Websites Were The Biggest Winners in 2015? Amazon, Facebook, Yelp, and TripAdvisor All Gain Top Google Search Visibility

January 5, 2016 0 comments

More often than not, Google is on the beating side of accusations by companies, such as Yelp and TripAdvisor. They often accuse that Google favours itself in search engine listings, instead of showing results from Yelp and TripAdvisor.

We recently covered another similar story in which Google was accused of search results manipulation. Google claimed that it was just a “bug” but companies such as Yelp wasn’t ready to buy it.

However, having said that, a recent search engine study surprised pretty much everyone when it showed that Google’s competitors gained the top search visibility in 2015. The research report is published by Dr. Peter Meyers by Moz.

As per the report, Moz tracks approximately 10,000 keywords on a daily basis. Based on those 10,000 keywords, it compiled a list of the top 10 domains that got the most exposure.

Here is the list.

Amazon is the clear winner here.

However, when the report studied the websites who improved the most in terms of percentage, it got a different winner.

Etsy improved its search engine visibility by 156%, which was the most by any domain tracked. It was closely followed by Instagram that improved by 123%. Furthermore, you can also see that Google’s own Google Play Store also improved its search engine visibility by 41%. But, Apple’s App Store outperformed Google’s Play Store by improving at a 48% rate.

Apart from the top-performing websites, the report also took a look on the websites that lost the most. The results are here.

It came as a big surprise that it is Twitter that lost the most traffic from Google. And it is despite a deal that is supposed to improve its search engine exposure in Google.

That rounds up our summary of Dr. Pete’s work. What are your takings on it?
